I was about to go to sleep last night and the Sleep Number mattress infomercial came on. If any of you have seen these infomercials over the years, you'll remember that Lindsay Wagner from Bionic Woman fame is the pitch person. I'll admit she's always looked pretty good. Then I noticed something last night, every time she was on the screen the image would be fuzzy. It was as if she was in her own dreamlike state. This was not a technical issue, it was intentional. Has she aged to the point that her appearances on this infomercial have to be blurred?
LOL I wondered if anyone else had noticed the filter being used on poor old Lindsey Wagner. This was a technique used in movies once upon a time to make aging actresses look, well, younger. Didn't know it was still in use.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Lindsay Wagner is one of my all-time favorite has-beens. What's interesting to me about the sleep number commercial is that her image is very (intentionally) blurred... It is also a very aging commercial. Several things point to this, most notably: there is no reference to a website during the commercial or in the fine print either. Also, I have a buddy who archives older video footage (mainly commercials). Some of this archived footage gets used in homemade music video productions. The interesting thing is that we found this commercial in a archive from 1992....meaning this commercial was filmed prior to 1992. This commercial was archived because it contains wonderful footage of "mattress testing machines" in action. When I did a Goog search on lindsay wagner sleep number, I could not find a definitive production date for this ad. I think this is a very interesting commercial. I would love to know the actual production date.
